Day 21 – Public water stations

This is more of a suggestion to the water fountain people in the United States. One of the key driving forces that make people buy expensive bottled water is due to the terrifyingly bad public drinking fountains. Some are dirty, others have too low water pressure, and most of them just stink in providing a good drinkable water experience.

The picture above is one of many “water stations” that are located in various locations within Korea University’s campus. The machine is professionally maintained by a contracting company (which means filters actually get REPLACED every month), and the water station provides either hot or cold filtered water from the public water system.

Because these water stations are awesome, most Korea University students do not buy water at the store. I personally carry a water bottle with me and fill it whenever I need them. Sure, some bureaucrats back in the states will complain that the cost to replace the current crappy drinking fountains might be too expensive, but having a dependable, nicely filtered water source makes life much easier (and also killing any excuse for buying bottled water).
