I have not decided the entire summer reading list, but I have picked three books so far.

My mother bought me the “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch for my birthday. This book is based off of the viral video lecture titled “The Last Lecture” by the Professor at Carnegie Mellon. Listed as a national bestseller, this will be my first book on the list.

The next book on the list is “Classical Music for Dummies”. Although I have some knowledge of music, my mother, an academic musician, recommended me to read and finish this book last year. I think this will be an enjoyable read, and the book includes a nice classical music CD for the readers.

For this coming fall quarter I will be taking a course called “Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason”. Immanuel Kant’s philosophy is not an easy one to digest, and I want to prepare myself by at least familiarizing with his basic ideas. So, I picked “Kant: A Very Short Introduction” by Roger Scruton. The book is definitely not a substitute for taking the class, but after reading it I think I will be well armed for the upcoming class next year.

As you have noticed, all three books have to do with learning. “The Last Lecture” deals with lessons in life, “Classical Music for Dummies” attempts to go over all the important points in the realm of classical music, and “Kant: A Very Short Introduction” gives a dense but concise definition on Kant’s philosophy. After finishing the three books, I will add another three to the list.

I am quite excited to spend good times with several books. Let’s hope I can keep up with the reading!

Announcements

I do a lot of reading for school and for personal enjoyment. In the coming weeks, I will feature some of the books that I am currently reading as I concentrate on writing less "Internet-related" topics.
