Open Door

A couple of month ago, I was very sympathetic with people who were blogging for money. There were a couple of "Make Money with you blog" websites here and there, and I initially was interested in following them, not because I wanted to earn money through my websites but because I was curious about the mass culture behind this topic.

There are still a lot of people discussing on various ways to earn money, and I respect their decision to invest their time in attempting to reach their goal. However, my interest for following the topic faded after I read an article by Carl Ocab. Carl was one of the first "Make Money" bloggers that I followed, because he seems to be quite successful in earning money through his website at an early age. He brands his website well, and he has a high rank on several popular Google search terms. In short, he has a well established base for a successful money making website, and he is sharing his experience with the world. I am still impressed on how much he has accomplished at a young age.

However, his blog post finally closed all of my interest for following any "Make Money" websites. There is nothing offensive about his writing, and one can argue that the article is one of the most comprehensive posts that Carl has ever written. However, I am disappointed by the lack of originality in the writing and the cloud of desperate urge to earn money online.

I am not specifically disappointed with Carl's vision, but I realize that my disappointment reflects towards the general "Make Money" community as a whole. People with hyper inflated "portfolios" tout themselves as entrepreneurs while the term "SEO" (Search Engine Optimization) is tossed around as if it is a holy grail for becoming rich. In short, the "Make Money" community has become so diluted to the point that the term "originality" is becoming only a theoretical construct and nothing else.

There are various other blogs that I follow that does not fall in my "Make Money" category. Christy does a good balance between ad-sponsored post and her original writing. Phil's writings are clearly well meditated before it becomes published on Thought Sparks. Whenever I visit their blogs, I can feel that a genuine person is behind the writing. Their ideas are their own, and you can feel their passion within each of their articles.

I guess what the "Make Money" is missing is a little bit of humanity. They have gone all robotic these days.

I do a lot of reading for school and for personal enjoyment. In the coming weeks, I will feature some of the books that I am currently reading as I concentrate on writing less "Internet-related" topics.
