For the past week I have been away from the computing world, and it really felt good to be away from all the craziness from the Internet. But as soon as I resumed my normal blogging habits of visiting other blogs and news websites, I started to feel the information overload and the effect of dilution. I guess this feeling is generated mostly by the repetitive information that is scattered through out the website and the vast volumes of websites that I usually check everyday, but I could also blame on my constant obsession on getting latest news and be well versed on current information.
This obsession is not categorically unhealthy, but after listening to one of the sermons at a church I realized that even though the world might continue to move forward I still can rest a couple of days and catch up to the latest information later. I guess many bloggers share this information overload, and many of them do not take the time to rest their minds in fear of being left behind the pack. But the reality is that a nice break can refresh one’s mind for better “performance” in the long-run, and the opportunity cost of not reading the latest news every single day is actually quite small.
So upon this reflection I have decided to take breaks often from my blogging habits and do other activities to rejuvenate my own brain from frying. Maybe I should continue that reading list that I have planned so long ago….
